President Trump on March 26 said he was extending by one year–to April 2020–the national emergency regarding cybersecurity threats that was declared by President Obama in 2015 under Executive Order 13694, and amended in 2016 by Executive Order 13757. The original order, the White House said, was declared to “deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States constituted by the increasing prevalence and severity of malicious cyber?enabled activities originating from, or directed by persons located, in whole or in substantial part, outside the United States.” In extending the order, the White House said “these significant malicious cyber-enabled activities continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.”
