The Department of Transportation (DoT) has appointed Jay Ribeiro as the agency’s new chief information security officer (CISO) and associate chief information officer (CIO), according to Ribeiro’s LinkedIn page.

“I’m happy to share I’m starting a new position” at DoT, he said.

The U.S. Army veteran brings many years of experience across Federal civilian and military agencies to the new position.

Most recently, Ribeiro was CISO at the Justice Department’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) from 2018 to 2022 as the agency worked through a multi-year transition to cloud infrastructure.

Before that, Ribeiro was CISO and director of information security at the Federal Election Commission from 2016 to 2018.

Over several years before that, he held security positions across multiple agencies, including: senior information security specialist at the State Department; information systems security manager at the Defense Department; and deputy CISO at the U.S. Air Force. Ribeiro also had numerous information security assignments across his U.S. Army service both in the enlisted and officer ranks.

In addition to his professional resume, Ribeiro is also an adjunct lecturer and advisor at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies.
