The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today approved the nomination of Kiran Ahuja to become the next director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
The panel voted to approve the nomination on a 7-5 party-line vote, and its action today sends the nomination to the full Senate for a confirmation vote.
President Biden nominated Ahuja to head OPM on Feb. 23. She was chief of staff at the agency from 2015 to 2017, and formerly headed the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders from 2009 to 2015.
At her Senate Homeland Security confirmation hearing earlier this month, Ahuja committed to working with senators on cybersecurity-related legislative proposals, such as the Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act that committee Chairman Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., is sponsoring.
“I very much appreciate the work that you’ve been doing around cyber talent. I think it’s an important issue and I definitely commit to working with you in this committee on those issues,” Ahuja told the committee.
