Confirmation of the appointment of Camilo Sandoval as the new Federal Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) has emerged in the form of his listing on the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) CIO.gov website as holding the Federal CISO title.

Sandoval began listing the Federal CISO title on his LinkedIn social media page last month, but numerous contacts to Sandoval and OMB to confirm the appointment received no response. Likewise, the appointment has not been announced by the White House. The Federal CISO position is presidentially appointed and does not require Senate confirmation.

MeriTalk was first to report in September that the administration was considering Sandoval for the Federal CISO position.

Sandoval is the apparent successor to Grant Schneider, who stepped down as Federal CISO in August to become senior director of cybersecurity services at Venable. Most recently, Sandoval was president and CIO at Iowa City, Iowa-based MCI, and before that, he was acting CIO at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to that appointment, he held positions at the Treasury Department and was director of the data operations for the campaign of President Trump.
