The Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation at Georgetown University – which focuses on data and technology issues to drive more equitable practices in society – has named Cori Zarek executive director.

Zarek spent nearly four years in senior tech positions at the Obama White House, including a stint as Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer during 2016-2017 where she focused on open data, open government, and digital government issues, and supported the Presidential Innovation Fellows, U.S. Digital Service, and 18F government service delivery teams.

From 2013 to 2016, she was the White House’s Senior Advisor for Open Government, and coordinated U.S. efforts with the global Open Government Partnership.

Since leaving government, Zarek has been a senior fellow at Mozilla, and co-chair of the Code for America Summit.

Beeck Center projects include increasing data capacity in state and local governments, upskilling the public interest technology workforce, and establishing new approaches for digital identity and open source software in governments.
