The Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service released a playbook that’s helping government agencies to automate their business through technology solutions.
The Digital End-to-End Efficiency (DEEE) Playbook aims to help agencies through step-by-step instructions and job aids to accelerate their digital transformation efforts. Instead of offering one specific technology solution to agencies, the playbook aims to identify agencies’ pain points and determine the right technology solutions to mitigate or eliminate them.
“People expect to engage with the government the same way they engage with one another, through digitally enabled platforms,” said Adam Goldberg, acting assistant commissioner at the Office of Financial Innovation and Transformation (FIT). “The Digital End-to-End Efficiency framework is different from many digital transformation efforts because it emphasizes both the customer and delivery experiences to identify the highest priority opportunities for improvement.”
The new playbook was developed over a six-month period in coordination with other Federal agencies who piloted the DEEE framework. The FIT office is currently looking for other Federal agencies who are interested in “partnering to evaluate their financial management end-to-end processes.”
According to a press release, the playbook will help agencies learn:
- “How to select a business process to maximize cost savings;
- How to quickly identify areas that present the greatest opportunities for automation and digitization; and
- How to choose the right solution(s) for implementation.”
What’s more, the FIT office identified significant cost savings through transforming end-to-end processes – an estimated $1.4 to $3 billion in government-wide cost-saving opportunities. The agency hopes the new playbook will offer cost savings to agencies and “transform their business processes through reducing unnecessary process steps, automation, and innovation to achieve large-scale efficiencies.”
