The Department of Energy (DoE) has named Emery Csulak as its new chief data officer (CDO).
Csulak moves into his new role after serving as DoE’s principal deputy chief information officer since September 2020. He has also served as the agency’s chief information security officer (CISO).
“As CDO, Mr. Csulak will develop and implement strategies that maximize the use of data to transform mission delivery,” DoE said in a post on its website.
“In this position, he is responsible for improving DoE mission achievement and increasing the benefits to the department and the American people, overseeing improvement in the management, use, protection, dissemination, and generation of data,” the agency said.
Before his time at DoE, Csulak served as CISO and senior official for privacy at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for over four years.
He also served as deputy CISO and acting CISO at the Department of Homeland Security from 2009 to 2014.
