The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) recently awarded a contract worth about $110 million to Lumen Technologies to provide secure network services to the Department of Defense (DoD).
The contract has a five-year period of performance from Nov. 30, 2023, through Sept. 30, 2028. According to a Nov. 7 press release from the company, the award is an extension of an existing network services contract DISA awarded to Lumen.
“Lumen’s robust fiber network delivers always-on, 24/7 services that power the U.S. Department of Defense,” said Jason Schulman, Lumen national vice president, Federal sales. “DISA leverages the Lumen network’s strength, diversity, and resiliency to achieve its mission of connecting and protecting America’s service men and women who help defend our nation.”
Under the contract, Lumen will operate and maintain DISA’s “fiber backbone,” which includes end-to-end network infrastructure, colocation facilities, system updates to improve network resilience, new fiber builds, and dark fiber – which simply means fiber optic cables that aren’t in use.
Lumen said it provides over 11,000 fiber miles in support of the DoD Information Network (DoDIN).
Last fall, DISA awarded Lumen a $1.5 billion contract to provide network transport and communications services in the Asia Pacific region. The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract will deliver network services over a ten-year period in the 36-nation U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Area of Responsibility.
Most recently, DISA awarded Lumen a $223 million contract earlier this year to provide secure, mission-critical communications services to the DoD. Under the agreement, Lumen will supply DISA with modern hybrid-cloud voice and audio-conferencing services.
