President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Richard L. Revesz for administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), according to a White House press release from September 2.
The administrative office is largely tasked with reviewing regulations from the executive branch, approving government information collections, establishing government-wide statistical practices, and coordinating Federal privacy policies, according to the OIRA website. The office is comprised of six subject matter branches, which is led by the appointed administrator.
Revesz has an extensive background in law, environment, and public health among other expertise. According to the press release, he is the AnBryce Professor of Law and Dean Emeritus at the New York University School of Law. He founded the Institute for Policy Integrity, an organization that promotes desirable public policy for consumer. Revesz is also the director of the American Law Institute.
Revesz graduated from Princeton University, earned a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
This is the longest a president has taken to nominate someone to run OIRA since the position began requiring Senate confirmation in the late 1980s, according to Senate records. Dominic Mancini is the current acting administrator of the office.
