DOE Installs LEDs in Headquarters

The Department of Energy finished installing 33,000 LED lights in its Washington, D.C., headquarters as part of an energy reduction initiative. ADI Energy, an energy services company based in Smithfield, R.I., conducted the installation. The LED lights, which replaced fluorescent lighting, are projected to cut energy use by 45 percent. The new lights, Philips Lighting’s InstantFit LED Lamps, have a longer life span than the fixtures they are replacing. ADI Energy completed the upgrade through an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC), which is part of the agency’s ENABLE program, in sixth months. The ENABLE program offers a standardized procurement process for small Federal projects that focus on energy conservation technology. ADI Energy’s ESPC contract will last 13 years.
