Following President Trump’s proclamation of November as National Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M. Nielsen released a statement on Wednesday saying she and DHS are “committed to strengthening our efforts to protect and secure the infrastructure on which Americans rely, in close partnership with other Federal agencies, state, local, territorial and tribal governments, and the private sector.” She continued, “Only by working together can we help ensure the nation’s critical infrastructure is secure and resilient, and be ready to respond to any cyber or physical threats we might face.” In the statement she explained that “the threat to our critical systems is continuous and outpacing our defenses” and cited attempts by Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea to “use their power in cyberspace to compromise and disrupt our infrastructure, and advance their own interests.”
