The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), an agency of the United Nations, said on May 27 it established a new focus group that will look at how to optimize environmental efficiency with artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. The group is open to interested parties, and will lead a two-year consultation process to identify new aspects of environmental efficiency that would benefit from ITU standards. The focus group’s work is also expected to support ITU’s ongoing studies of the environmental requirements of 5G wireless networks.
