The White House today released an executive order authorizing the promised 1.9 percent pay raise for Federal civilian employees for 2019, including retroactive pay increases to January 1.
The executive order, which is required to authorize the raise, was delayed by legal issues, said Margaret Weichert, acting director of the Office of Personnel and Management, last week.
OPM confirmed that it has issued new pay tables and that “agencies and payroll providers will work quickly to update their systems and process retroactive pay actions.” Personnel looking for more detail should contact their human resources office or payroll provider, the agency added.
The pay-raise EO was an urgent demand of D.C.-region lawmakers, who have been pushing OPM to implement the raise as quickly as possible.
“Finally. It’s simply inexcusable and yet another example of the Trump administration’s disregard for federal workers that this pay raise that we fought so hard for took so long to implement,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Government Affairs, in a statement.
