The Technology Modernization Fund’s (TMF) website shows minimal or no spend thus far on the projects for which $89 million of funding has been awarded.
Among the largest projects to receive funding awards are two being conducted by the General Services Administration (GSA), and one by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
According to the TMF website, GSA has not yet used any of the $20.65 million in funds allotted for its Software-as-a-Service project, or any of the nearly $15 million it was awarded for its Application Modernization Integrating Flexible Architectures project. HUD, meanwhile, has used $4.57 million of the $20 million it has been awarded.
The Department of Agriculture (USDA) is another agency to have two projects funded by TMF, but has only used funds for one project – $1.36 million thus far of $10 million for its Farmers.gov portal. The Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Labor are the other two agencies listed with projects funded by TMF, but neither agency has used any funds for their projects yet.
The TMF was created through the passing of the Modernizing Government Technology Act that was signed into law in December 2017. Awardees for project funding were picked in March 2018, while the first three winners of the award (DOE, HUD, and USDA) were first revealed in June 2018.
