The Senate voted along party lines today to confirm Kiran Ahuja to become the next director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for a four-year term.

Vice President Kamala Harris broke the 50-50 tie to confirm President Biden’s nominee to run OPM. Ahuja will be the first permanent director of OPM since Dale Cabaniss resigned in March 2020.

President Biden nominated Ahuja to head OPM on Feb. 23.  She was chief of staff at the agency from 2015 to 2017, and formerly headed the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders from 2009 to 2015.

At her Senate Homeland Security confirmation hearing in April, Ahuja committed to working with senators on cybersecurity-related legislative proposals, such as the Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act that committee Chairman Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., sponsored.

“I very much appreciate the work that you’ve been doing around cyber talent. I think it’s an important issue and I definitely commit to working with you in this committee on those issues,” Ahuja told the committee.
