According to the Nexusguard Q3 2018 Threat Report, 65.5 percent of distributed denial-of-service attacks were launched against communications service providers (CSPs) in the third quarter of 2018. The quarterly report states that attackers were found to have contaminated a large, diverse pool of IP addresses across at least 527 Class C networks. “A stealthy, new volumetric attack contaminates legitimate traffic across hundred IP prefix with small-sized, junk to bypass detection,” the report reads. The year-over-year average attack size in the quarter fell by 82 percent.
