A new memo from the Office of Personnel Management offers new hiring authorities to agencies in key STEM-field areas, including cybersecurity related jobs.
The inter-agency memo, dated Thursday from Acting Director Margaret Weichert to department heads, gives agencies new direct-hire authorities for prospects with the following titles:
- Computer Engineers (Cybersecurity)
- Computer Scientists (Cybersecurity)
- Electronics Engineers (Cybersecurity)
- IT Cybersecurity Specialist**
“As the broader actions of the PMA [President’s Management Agenda] progress, we are also looking at maximizing the use of currently available tools and authorities to help address some of our most pressing hiring needs.” wrote Weichert.
The new hiring authorities take effect immediately, and will allow cybersecurity direct hires to receive pay grade levels 12 through 15.
The memo did not offer details on the total amount of hires that the new authorization may allow.
