The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said today it launched its new Federal Program Inventory (FPI) website that allows users to search for information on more than 2,300 Federal programs that provide financial assistance.
OMB said the new searchable tool can be used to gather critical information “about all Federal programs that provide grants, loans, or direct payments to individuals, governments, firms or other organizations.”
The creation of the FPI tool responds to a congressional mandate to shine a public light on the program inventory.
OMB said the tool “demonstrates how the Biden-Harris administration is delivering for the American people by making it easier for potential beneficiaries to find the programs they need and ensuring the effective stewardship of taxpayer funds.”
The FPI tool features data from existing Federal government sources including the SAM.gov and USASpending.gov websites.
“This tool serves a critical step towards increasing the transparency of Federal operations and spending,” OMB said, adding that it expects to improve the application over time.
“Grounded in a vision of an equitable, effective, and accountable government that delivers results for all Americans, OMB will work with stakeholders to iteratively improve the FPI,” the agency pledged. “This work will include working with Agencies to ensure that each of the programs listed are consistent with other authoritative sources of Federal assistance programs and for each of those programs making available more information including additional performance information.”
