The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has officially named Jeff Seaton as the agency’s permanent CIO.

Seaton has served as acting CIO at NASA since May, after the retirement of former CIO Renee Wynn on April 30, 2020.

Previously, Seaton served as deputy CIO and as CIO for NASA’s Langley Research Center from 2011 to 2018. He also served as the chief technology officer (CTO) at Langley Research Center prior to the CIO role. Seaton first joined NASA in 1991, conducting robotics research as an electrical engineer.

According to NASA’s website, “Seaton supported the leadership and integration of NASA corporate and mission critical IT functions and capabilities and oversaw NASA’s annual information technology (IT) spending of more than $2 billion. He collaboratively provided oversight for agency wide, mission-enabling functions related to IT investments, modernization efforts, cybersecurity and the delivery of enterprise-wide IT and information solutions.”
