DoD Completes Unified Communications Integration

Verizon announced yesterday that the Department of Defense (DoD) has migrated one of its agencies to a unified communications (UC) platform. By migrating the unnamed agency, the DoD replaced two legacy systems with a single next generation solution. According to Verizon, the move represents a “significant step forward in [the DoD’s] Everything Over IP initiative.” The migration process and initial deployment was led by Verizon. The technology leads on the project were Ribbon Communications, Black Box served as the integration collaboration, and Visioneering served as the engineering lead. With the new solution, the DoD’s agency can now integrate voice, video, instant messaging, and conferencing into a single communication platform.

State Department Holds Cyber Consultations With South Korea

The U.S. State Department today held its 5th United States-Republic of Korea Bilateral Cyber Consultations in Seoul, South Korea. The meetings were held “to strengthen our joint commitment to an open, interoperable, reliable, and secure cyberspace,” the State Department said. The U.S. delegation included representatives from the Departments of Commerce, Justice, and Defense. The countries reinforced their commitment to cooperation on: “deterring cyber adversaries, cybersecurity of critical infrastructure, capacity building, information sharing, military-to-military cyber cooperation, cybercrime, international security issues in cyberspace, and current threats and trends in the international cyber environment,” the State Department said.

Spaulding Joins King & Union Advisory Board

Suzanne Spaulding, formerly head of the Department of Homeland Security’s National Protection and Programs Directorate, joined the board of advisors of King & Union, a provider of threat analytics technologies.
