Jay Tabb will begin his tenure as the executive assistant director of the FBI’s National Security Branch (NSB) early next month. Tabb, who was appointed to the role by FBI Director Christopher Wray, will be tasked with overseeing all national security investigative and intelligence operations, including counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and weapons of mass destruction cases. Tabb has had a 21-year career with the FBI, serving in the Dallas Division, on the Hostage Rescue Team, and most recently as the special agent in charge of the Seattle Division. According to the FBI, he also held leadership positions at the Washington Field Office, in the Critical Incident Response Group, and in the Counterterrorism Division as deputy assistant director. During his service, Tabb has been awarded the FBI Medal of Valor, two FBI Stars, the Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service, and the Exceptional Service Medal from the Director of National Intelligence. The previous executive assistant director of NSB, Carl Ghattas, stepped down earlier this summer.
