The Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHA) has named Artie Chin, a 12-year Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) veteran, the agency’s first-ever Chief Technology Officer, Chin announced on his LinkedIn.
Chin comes to FHA after most recently serving as chief digital services officer at HUD. He helmed that role for the last two years, after serving as program manager and lead advisor for IT Modernization from May 2019 until March 2020.
“Today, I end my 12+ year journey at U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,” Chin wrote. “I’m so proud of the great people I’ve met and worked side-by-side with inside and outside the building. … We dreamed, we planned, we executed.”
“We accomplished incredible things together,” he added. “[We] eliminated a decade old, $190 million claim backlog. Closed $140 million in unpaid mortgage insurance premiums. Modernized technology and changed the fundamental way the industry interacts with the department, saving 75 million sheets of paper, $200 million in associated expenses.”
Chin began his career at HUD as an analyst in 2009 and held that role for five years. From there he moved up through the ranks relatively quickly, serving as a branch chief for single-family insurance operations for two years, director of HUD’s post-insurance division for two years, and director of the office of financial services for a year before taking on the role of leading IT modernization.
Chin has been sworn into his new role at FHA, and wrote he is “looking forward to a new, exciting chapter” in his career.
