The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives’ Chief Information Officer Rick Holgate told colleagues in an email Monday he is leaving government.

Credit: ACT-IACHolgate said his wife’s nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations mission in Vienna, Austria, will force the family to relocate, according to a Federal News Radio story by Jason Miller.

Holgate has served as CIO for the ATF since August 2009 and was responsible for strategy, planning, management, and delivery of ATF’s information technology and forensic services.

Holgate said he plans to take a job with IT analyst firm Gartner.

Holgate began his government service career in 2004 with an assistant director role at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, where he oversaw IT services and led the agency through its transition to the Navy Marine Corps Intranet, according to a story in GovConExec.

Prior to his Federal employment, Holgate worked at BearingPoint, Inc. and MITRE Corporation. He also serves as president of the American Council for Technology, an organization created by Federal employees.
