The General Services Administration (GSA) is planning to issue a draft request by the end of January to solicit information on a purchase agreement to develop a cloud computing service called Defense Enterprise Office Solutions (DEOS) to update the Department of Defense’s (DoD) legacy information technology applications.
According to an updated posting, GSA and DoD are partnering to create the service to replace legacy applications such as email, productivity, and chat apps. GSA plans to establish a single-award Blanket Purchase Agreement under GSA Information Technology Schedule 70 and will draft a Request for Quotes by Jan. 31. The contract may be worth up to $8 billion.
“By using the flexibility of the GSA contract vehicle, it will allow the DoD to transition to the cloud with less schedule risk, and at a lower cost,” said DoD CIO Dana Deasy back in November.
