The General Services Administration (GSA) and Department of Defense’s Joint AI Center (JAIC) are claiming five major achievements for their first year of joint work together that have accelerated JAIC’s operational maturity.

In an Oct. 27 statement, GSA and JAIC said the achievements include:

  1. Designed agile acquisition for AI;
  2. Unified program management and infrastructure support;
  3. Enabled environments for AI/machine learning/DevSecOps for the Joint Common Foundation;
  4. Implemented data management procedures; and
  5. Supported creation of the First Five Consortium.

Those achievements, they said, all align with the White House’s Executive Order (EO) on AI that seeks to apply AI solutions to challenges the government faces.  They stem from a one-year partnership between JAIC and with the Centers of Excellence (CoE) within GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service’s Technology Transformation Services (TTS).

“Our CoE partnership creates a broader forum for interagency cooperation in AI while providing agile acquisition and infrastructure solutions to deliver scalable AI-enabled capabilities for the warfighter,” said JAIC Chief Technology Officer Nand Mulchandani.

“The CoE and the JAIC continue to showcase what’s possible in the federal space when agencies come together to accelerate modernization thinking and best practices,” said Acting FAS Deputy Commissioner and TTS Director Bob De Luca. “Our partnership with the JAIC demonstrates a great case for the impact that GSA teams can achieve.”

In addition to aligning with the White House EO on AI, the achievements support the DoD AI strategy and JAIC’s mission of transforming the U.S. military through AI.
