The General Services Administration (GSA) released several notices of intent today to negotiate its existing Local Service Agreement (LSA) contracts to continue to 2023, as the agency continues to transition Federal telecommunications and networking contracts to the $50 billion Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract.
The move will not come as a surprise to agencies – in December 2018, GSA announced its intention to extend existing contracts from 2020, with the option of extending them to 2023.
“GSA has determined that an extension is in the public interest because it will enhance cybersecurity, promote technical and operational efficiencies, and promote long-term cost savings,” the notices state.
In the adoption of the EIS contract, GSA has been pushing agencies to modernize instead of replacing legacy equipment with like-for-like solutions. While legacy contracts like the LSA agreements may be extended until 2023, GSA is pushing agencies to get off of legacy contracts by September 2022.
In the notices, GSA makes its intention in extending the contracts clear.
“The extension is required to allow more time for agencies to incorporate IT Modernization as they plan for and execute the transition from CA LSA II to the follow-on EIS contracts,” GSA said.
