The Office of Personnel Management’s 2022 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (OPM FEVS) results are in, showing that Federal employees are less satisfied with their pay in 2022 compared to 2021, but that overall job satisfaction and engagement remain steady.

The OPM FEVS survey found that 56 percent of Federal employees are satisfied with their pay – down five percentage points from 61 percent satisfaction in 2021.

However, employees’ job satisfaction remained fairly steady at 66 percent, down one point from 67 percent in 2021. Employee engagement held steady at 71 percent – the exact same score as the 2021 FEVS.

“Amid unprecedented challenges, Federal employees remain remarkably resilient, engaged, and committed to public service,” OPM Director Kiran Ahuja said in a statement.

“Federal employees are finding creative solutions to stay connected to their teams, leverage workplace flexibilities, and remain motivated to continue doing the critical work on behalf of the American people,” she added.

As for new additions to the survey, this year’s OPM FEVS features a new index for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA), in line with President Biden’s June 2021 DEIA executive order. The survey found that 69 percent of Federal employees report positive perceptions of agency practices related to DEIA.

OPM said the new DEIA index will serve as a baseline to assess future changes and as a benchmark to compare agency DEIA initiatives.

The OPM FEVS also features a new “innovation” component this year, with 64 percent of employees consistently looking for new ways to improve work, and 56 percent noting that management encourages innovation.

This year’s FEVS also marked the return of the survey’s spring administration and fall release, after OPM administered the survey in the fall of the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
