The Defense Security Service has awarded a $75 million contract to Perspecta through an other transaction agreement (OTA) that will work to add advanced AI to backend systems and modernize the vetting processes of security clearance personnel for the National Background Investigation Service (NBIS).
“The objective with this OTA is to integrate new bold and transformational approaches from the NBIS architecture and take the next step with technology to integrate and align other security missions,” said Terry Carpenter, program executive officer for NBIS.
The contract will focus on several areas for NBIS, including: data ingest, brokering, and analytics capability enabled by AI; and enterprise-level “software factory” capabilities to efficiently develop, test, secure and deploy additional vetting processes using DevSecOps automation.
“It complements the OTA award last June as we work to build a system that is agile and flexible that better enables the Federal vetting enterprise for the whole of government,” Carpenter said.
Background investigation responsibilities for the entire government will transfer to the Department of Defense soon, and NBIS awarded the contract to restructure the process.
