Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Crime Center (DC3) Executive Director Jude Sunderbruch retired from his position on June 18, the Pentagon announced on June 20.
In addition to his official departure from his role at the DC3, Sunderbruch retired from the Senior Executive Service, following his retirement from the Air Force Reserve earlier this month.
DC3 Deputy Director Joshua Black is assuming the role of interim DC3 Executive Director.
While Sunderbruch was at the helm, DC3 expanded significantly to a workforce of more than 500 people encompassing civilians, military members, and contractors. During his tenure, the cyber center evolved into a pivotal “Federal Cyber Center” offering a “range of integrated services like cyber training, digital forensics, and cybersecurity support to the Defense Industrial Base.”
DC3 also provides analysis and operational enablement, and advanced technical solutions and capabilities.
Sunderbruch’s career, which began with the Air Force in 1994, included significant leadership roles including as executive director of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) before he assumed leadership at the DC3.
Additionally, he served as an active duty AFOSI special agent from 1994 until 2001, where he gained extensive interagency and international leadership experience in cybersecurity and national security.
