The Defense Department’s (DoD) Chief Information Officer (CIO) has launched the 24th annual DoD CIO Awards program with a departmentwide call for nominations to recognize individuals and teams in the DoD IT community.
Since its inception, the DoD CIO Awards program has emphasized the pivotal role of skilled professionals in bolstering national security through technological prowess and innovation. The program – open to all branches of the DoD – encourages nominations that celebrate achievements making significant impacts on mission success and operational efficiency.
“Within the DoD, the IT workforce does fantastic work, but they are also exceptionally busy,” DoD CIO Awards Program Manager Sam Kassem said in a press release.
The program honors accomplishments in cybersecurity, technological advancements, and collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing the department’s IT capabilities. The program also recognizes achievements in user experience, international engagements, and network optimization.
This year the DoD CIO wants to have as many nominees as possible to consider for awards.
“The Department can’t recognize the best performers unless their names are nominated by their leadership. We ask for nominations to allow plenty of time for leaders to build award packages to get their top talent the recognition they have worked hard all year to earn,” Kassem said.
The department intends to release the 2024 nomination guidelines in early July. Eligibility for the awards extends to personnel supporting military departments, combatant commands, defense agencies, and more.
The performance period for consideration spans from June 2023 to July 2024, with submissions due by August 6. Winners will be announced in November, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 3 at the Pentagon.
