The Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) is reaching out to experts for insights into generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) across the DoD, according to a recent request for information (RFI) posted to TradewindsAI.
The RFI – issued on June 19 – specifically asks for innovative solutions to tackle challenges at the DoD related to AI testing, evaluation, and assuring foundation models.
“Information gained from this RFI will be used to inform the requirements and direction of [the DoD’s] future investments,” the RFI reads.
The CDAO heads the GenAI and Large Language Models Taskforce, also known as Task Force Lima, which the department launched in August 2023 as the central point for DoD experimentation, assessment, and integration of GenAI. The CDAO Assessment & Assurance Division enables the testing, evaluation, and assurance of AI/ML applications throughout the department.
Responses to the RFI are expected to outline identified capability gaps, substantiate these gaps with evidence of shortcomings, detail their impact on the DoD’s adoption of GenAI and foundation models, and propose solutions aimed at addressing these challenges.
The CDAO clarified that the RFI is strictly for information gathering purposes and does not constitute a call for proposals. CDAO stated that responses to the RFI will not lead to any awards or contracts at this time.
Interested parties must submit their responses via TradewindsAI.com by July 13.
