The Department of Defense’s (DoD) Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has invested in a cybersecurity platform to upgrade their “cyber threat detection and intelligence-gathering capabilities,” according to a Jan. 25 press release.

DIU awarded an Other Transaction (OT) agreement to cyber deception firm CounterCraft. The company’s platform uses deception technology to fool adversaries into making a mistake and then reports the unauthorized activity, according to the release.

“The contract with DIU went forward in record time,” David Barroso, co-founder and CEO of CounterCraft said. “It’s impressive to see our technology adopted at the speed of relevance by one of the world’s top cybersecurity powers.”

This deception technology has the potential to prevent future cyberattacks, such as the SolarWinds hack that was detected in December 2020.

“The capability to elicit high-grade threat intel from cyber attackers is a game-changer,” Barroso added.
