Several high-ranking Federal agency tech leaders are set to testify before the House Government Operations Subcommittee on July 17 when it holds a hearing to consider the effectiveness of the FedRAMP (Federal Risk Assessment and Management Program) program that standardizes security requirements of cloud services used by the government.
The hearing “will examine the extent to which FedRAMP has reduced duplicative efforts, inconsistencies, and cost inefficiencies associated with cloud security authorization processes,” according to an announcement from the House Oversight and Reform Committee.
The first panel of hearing witnesses features: Anil Cheriyan, Director of the General Services Administration’s Technology Transformation Services organization; Jack Wilmer, deputy CIO for Cybersecurity at the Defense Department; Joseph Klimavicz, CIO at the Justice Department; and Jose Arrieta, CIO at the Department of Health and Human Services.
The second panel of witnesses includes: Jonathan Berroya, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Internet Association; Douglas Barbin, Principal at Schellman & Company LLC; Will Ackerly, Chief Technology Officer at Virtru; and Lynn Martin, Vice President of Government, Education, and Healthcare at VMWare.
Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., chairman of the subcommittee said earlier this year that codifying FedRAMP into law was one of his key areas of focus for the subcommittee. He introduced a bill last year to do just that, and to address what the congressman said were shortcomings of the program including the slow pace of implementing standardized practices, and realizing efficiencies in the certification process.
