Catherine Marsh has returned to the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) as the organization’s new director, according to a Nov. 22 press release from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

“We are happy to welcome Catherine back to the ODNI. Her impressive experience, previous service at IARPA and career of innovation make her the right leader for this important position,” Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Strategy and Engagement Corin Stone said in the release.

In her latest role, Marsh leads IARPA’s research programs aiming to realize groundbreaking technologies for national intelligence missions. Between 2013 and 2015, she served as IARPA’s deputy director and was responsible for investing in high-risk and high-payoff research programs. Most recently, Marsh worked as chief scientist in the Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T) at the Central Intelligence Agency.

Marsh is also a Director of National Intelligence Fellow and a member of the DS&T’s Distinguished Expert Cadre. She holds a doctorate in inorganic and analytical chemistry from Brown University.

Marsh succeeds Stacey Dixon, who left the position in June to become deputy director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
