The Biden-Harris transition team has chosen two Obama White House veterans – David Recordon and Austin Lin – to run technology operations in the White House’s Office of Management and Administration (OMA).
The OMA provides administrative services – including IT, financial management, and human resources management – to all entities in the Executive Office of the President, including direct support services to the President.
Recordon, who has been Deputy Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the transition team, will become Director of Technology for the OMA. Lin, who has been Director of IT and Security for the transition team, will serve as Recordon’s deputy director in the OMA.
“Today’s appointees are respected leaders who will bring a commitment to serving the American people each and every day,” incoming White House Chief of Staff Ron Klein said in a release.
Both appointees are in their early 30s, with experience in the Obama White House and other Federal government service, and after that with Facebook and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative – the philanthropy arm of Priscilla Chan and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Recordon comes to the Biden administration already very familiar with 1600 Penn, having served as the first Director of White House IT during the Obama administration, and before that with the administration’s U.S. Digital Service organization.
After government service, Recordon went to the private sector as Engineering Director at Facebook for a year before becoming Vice President of Infrastructure and Security at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Recordon is also the youngest recipient of the Google-O’Reilly Open Source Award, winning Best Strategist in 2007.
Lin also comes with experience in both the White House and the private sector. He started his career as a Research Fellow at the National Center for Supercomputing Operations, then spent the next three years in the Obama White House, starting as an Operations Staff Assistant and working his way up to Deputy Director of White House IT.
He then followed a similar path as Recordon, first to Facebook for a year as a Technical Program Manager, then to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative with the same title.
