The United States Army said in a recent solicitation that it’s interested in engineering services for a project to provide soldiers with integrated, latest-generation technologies for training and combat purposes.

The solicitation – aimed at small businesses – is titled “The Ground Soldier Technology Workflow, Integration, and eXperience (GS-TWIX).” The program aims to use sensors, 5G wireless technology, and augmented reality to enhance the way soldiers are trained and communicate.

“GS-TWIX effort develops ground Soldier-centric information technology across the operational spectrum of hardware, software, network, and data as well as integrates same to optimize the ground Soldier’s ability to shoot, move and communicate according to the Army Modernization Priorities,” states the solicitation.

The scope of the project is to design and develop solutions for small unit solider systems to work in a more cohesive manner and support warfighting functions.

“Historically, Small Unit systems were electronic in nature. Currently, Small Unit systems span the mechanical, electrical, software, network, and data engineering spectrum,” the solicitation says.

The project will also look to execute solutions and products for the following areas:

  • Sensored Soldier;
  • Nett Warrior/GS;
  • Ground Soldier Systems Integration (SIF);
  • CBRND Integration with Ground Soldier Systems; and
  • OUSD 5G SUDO.

The solicitation will remain open to all contractors until August 21.
