The State Department now has its first permanent CIO in more than a year. Stuart McGuigan was announced on Tuesday as the new CIO and head of the agency’s Bureau of Information Resource Management.  McGuigan most recently served as CIO at Johnson & Johnson and was previously CIO at CVS. He replaces Karen Mummaw, who served as the Department’s acting CIO since Frontis Wiggins retired from the position in December 2017. Mummaw announced her retirement last month. “Every aspect of the department’s information technology capabilities and operations now falls under Stuart’s oversight, including architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data management, software, and application development and acquisition,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a department press briefing on Tuesday.
