CSRA announced Aug. 23 that it will test the Navy’s enterprise level integrated pay and personnel system operating on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. CSRA will test the viability and flexibility of the human resource management (HRM) system.

The test seeks to ensure that the Navy receives the benefits of hosting an application on the AWS cloud platform, while having the appropriate security protocols. CSRA will be the first company in the industry to conduct such a test for the U.S. Navy, according to a press release.

“We are honored to be chosen by the U.S. Navy to be the first to execute field testing for a COTS HRM instance on AWS,” said Ken Deutsch, CSRA’s executive vice president for defense. “CSRA has led the industry by working with prominent tech companies to lead our military customers into the next generation of innovation and technology. We are proud to continue our collaboration with AWS to meet the needs of America’s military.”

CSRA will conduct the test on a remote accessed AWS environment, and will test against the appropriate Department of Defense and National Institute of Standards and Technology security requirements.

The first field test is being conducted by CSRA’s Integrated Pay and Personnel System-Navy team, by using a government provided architecture and configured HR product.

CSRA currently supports the Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System, which is used by all of the Navy’s sailors. CSRA is working with the Navy to get rid of other legacy applications and upgrade to new technology. This test is intended to allow the Navy to build a secure next-generation digital environment leveraging cloud based capabilities.
