The State Department’s Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy (CDP) held a swearing-in ceremony last week for Steve Lang, who has officially started his new role as U.S. coordinator for international communications and information policy, with the rank of ambassador.
President Biden nominated Lang for the role in July 2023, in which he will represent the United States in matters involving international telecommunications standards and security policies.
In a post on LinkedIn, CDP thanked those who attended the ceremony and said it looks forward “to more meaningful and impactful contributions and continued collaboration.”
Lang previously served as deputy assistant secretary of state for international information and communications policy. Prior to that role, he served as minister-counselor for economic and scientific affairs at the U.S. embassy in Tokyo.
He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of minster-counselor and has held various positions at the State Department for 28 years.
