National Institutes of Health

Mr. Ipiotis is the Hosting and Storage service area manager for the Center for Information Technology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He joined NIH after serving for more than four years at the National Science Foundation (NSF) as the Infrastructure Services branch chief. At NSF he was responsible for managing the data center facilities, telecommunications networks, and all other aspects of IT infrastructure. He spearheaded multiple shared services and cloud computing infrastructure transitions including the move of email and instant messaging to the Cloud and implementing cloud backup services. He also led the NSF data center consolidation efforts. This resulted in the consolidation of two data centers down to one while significantly reducing the overall footprint of the remaining data center from 110 racks down to less than 30% of the original size. As a result, NSF received an “A” for their data center consolidation efforts on the GAO FITARA scorecard.
