Peter McDonald is a Digital Identity Practice Manager for Symantec’s Public Sector Division, working with Federal agencies and State and Local governments to solve their various digital identity and authentication challenges. These challenges span the spectrum from ensuring a valid online identity, reducing fraud, and/or providing additional, stronger authentication. His areas of work include first responders needing secure and expedient access to event specifics government systems and citizens interacting with our government electronically. As a Practice Manager he is deeply involved with the different Symantec identity and authentication products, technologies, certification groups, and committee organizations.

Peter has been with Symantec for over five years with a security focus on authentication, encryption, and data loss prevention. He was part of Symantec’s Data Loss Prevention acquisition of Vontu Corporation, ensuring Federal public confidence, demonstrating compliance, and maintaining agency mission focus through protection of an agencies’ sensitive data.

Prior to Symantec Mr. McDonald was with Vericept Corporation where he led the company’s Federal data security initiatives. Prior to Vericept Peter McDonald co-founded Federal Solutions Group and served at Hewlett-Packard, BroadWare Technologies (now Cisco Systems), Saba Software in various sales and marketing capacities.

Mr. McDonald holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an M.B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business. He is also a member of NASCIO’s Digital Identity Working Group, Industry Advisory Council (IAC) Cybersecurity Shared Interest Group and an AFCEA member.
