FITARA Forward

In 2014, Pharrell Williams’ Happy topped the charts, few of us had taken an Uber, we all had iPhone 5s – and cloud computing was considered too risky. That’s the year, we passed FITARA into law. FITARA’s proved a huge success, but a lot has changed in IT and government since 2014 – C2S, JEDI, milCloud, and more… What’s next for this important measurement tool?

The FITARA Forward Initiative

Bringing together key stakeholders in government IT performance improvement, FITARA Forward aims to explore the future for the FITARA scorecard that grades Federal agencies on IT performance as well as agency and CIO IT budget accountability. The Government Technology Alliance, a 501(c)(3) organization, will manage the FITARA Forward initiative in partnership with MeriTalk. Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) will serve as the honorary chair for FITARA Forward.

The initiative will consider outcome-/mission-oriented IT performance metrics to inform an updated FITARA scorecard. It will also explore opportunities to tie FITARA performance to the MGT Act, TMF and appropriations.

How it Works

We’ll start with research to understand the priorities, aspirations, and pain points of CIO stakeholders – agency mission owners and the American public. The group will deliver a report to House Subcommittee on Government Operations Chairman Connolly, timed with the announcement of the FITARA 10.0 results.
